Paranormal Radio

My movie is called ‘Paranormal Radio.’ It’s about a young beautiful girl (me) who seems to be haunted on March 13th 2015. (Friday the 13th) The lights keep coming off on her and she doesn’t understand why.

I used my Blackberry and Web-cam to film all the scenes!! #BlackberryAreBetterThanIphones

The first scene is mainly text with scary music to put the viewer in a more scary mood. Followed by a shaky video of the main character walking up to a door You cn hear my footsteps going with the scary music making it more dramatic. Then I pan to the side where its in a wide shot then she screams and the video goes dark.

The next scene is a medium shot we don’t see my legs cause i’m sitting down but we hear me typing. Even though you don’t see the computer you can clearly tell i’m typing by looking up and down. Then the lights turn off but you hear my reaction

I’m in the bathroom in the next scene again there is a lot of medium shots being used., also a close up shot.

Lights turn off.

The next scene is more of an extreme wide shot of me walking. I’m walking but the camera stayed still which is a Pan shot.

I ended the movie with using the exact same scene as the beginning.

There’s a lot of cut- away shots which I thought enhances the scenes. The scenes where it’s more dark I think adds dramatic effect, I tried to make it more shaky so there’s a little bit of confusion of whats happening and makes the viewers wonder what’s going on.

ENJOY!!

A Story of Panic

This is me at about 8:15 this morning.
Panic

Of course I had seen better days, but considering I had an assignment due in a little under two hours, time was not my friend. I had to tell a story. I had to tell a story with images and video and a certain amount of narration. Shouldn’t have been too hard, right? I mean, telling stories is right up my alley. Didn’t stop me from putting it off until the last minute now did it? Well, here I am now, and I’ve still got a story to tell. So what should I say?

Should I talk about my most recent love?

Or is that too dramatic for my classmates to take in? If only I had a clue about what to say.

Luckily, I consider myself a smart guy. Maybe I’ll think of something to show the class before I have to sell my possessions, move to Thailand and live on a beach with a radioactive monkey for the rest of my life. Fingers crossed!

Get ready to go on an adventure. Don’t worry, you won’t even have to get up – wicked right? –

In this wicked show? movie? clip? episode? porno? (you do see me change in front of you so…) we’ll just call it a movie.

The character, Joey, is late for school. Or so he thinks. His conscience (narrator) makes fun of him and takes advantage of his lack of responsibility. Joey is in a race against time to get to school. However, there’s a surprise waiting for him when he’s about to leave the house.

Enjoy!

My legs are on FLEEK

Follow me on twitter and instagram(more videos there): @JoeyCast93

Slide into my DM’s, you might get some more photos or videos of me changing in the bathroom 😉 Pics for pics? haha!

Suicidal Night

(Warning: Kind of dark)

This is a story about a young man who has contemplated suicide for a while. He’s lost sight of what his purpose in life is. He can’t come up with a good reason to stay alive. He’s lost. He doesn’t know what the future holds, his long-time girlfriend broke up with him, and he lost his beloved pet dog.

This man woke up one day and finally decided ‘Today’s the day”. He’s said this before but he was sure this time would be for real. Later that evening, he got dressed and headed out. As he walks out, he turns around and takes one last look at the apartment building he grew up living in for most of his life. This would be the last time.

IMG_0664[1]

He took a walk through his neighbourhood. It was a bitter, cold night. He noticed a missing dog poster on a pole and it reminded him of his dog who died.

IMG_0653[1]

Walking through his neighbourhood felt weird to him. It was an emotional walk because he knew deep down that this would be the last time he would see what seemed to be normal things like street lights, stop signs, and fire hydrants. He reached the lake. This place was special to him because he used to come here with his girlfriend late at night and watch the city skyline and just talk for hours. He thought about her a lot, taking in the scenery, just like he used to with her.

IMG_0666[1]

He sat there for a while, watching the waves and taking in the city lights. He loved his city. He was going to miss it. But watching the skyline wasn’t the same without her by his side. He made his way back up to the street until he got to the traffic lights. He stood there for a while and just watched the lights go from red….to green….back to red again……back to green.

IMG_0677[1]

IMG_0679[1]

He continued on down the main street he’s all too familiar with. The stores, the restaurants, the bars, the streetcar tracks. He knew this road like the back of his hand. It was fairly quiet at this time of night. Well after midnight, hardly any cars or people were visible. He stood in the middle of the road, looking ahead. He thought, is this my moment? Is this it?

IMG_0680[1]

It wasn’t. It didn’t feel right. Not here. He wasn’t looking for attention. He didn’t want a huge crowd standing over him when it happened. “The subway.”, he thought. That’s where he needed to go. So off he went, making his way to the nearest subway station. When he got there, he took the escalator down to the platform. He didn’t feel nervous at all. He was sure, this is what needed to be done.

IMG_0683[1]

He thought about his life one final time. He thought about his mother. His father. Everything he’d be leaving behind. His depression was unexplainable. It was greater than anything else in his life. It consumed him entirely. The headlights of the train appeared. This was it. The train got closer.

IMG_0684[1]

And closer.

IMG_0685[1]

And closer.

IMG_0687[1]

It’s anyone’s guess as to whether he jumped or not. That is up for interpretation. Suicide is never the answer. But he always wondered if his depressed life was really worth living through.

From Day To Night: Radio Life

This, my good friend, is my last semester in college. More importantly it’s my last year as a Radio Humber broadcasting student. I mean… can we just applaud me for that? A little hip hip hooray action, a toast to this awesomeness. Cause it definitely wasn’t easy. The life as a radio broadcasting student here at Humber has it’s high up’s and a few stressful, procrastinating lows ( I say as I write this report at 1am the night before it’s due)…

Us cool kids get scheduled for on-air shifts starting at a very early 8am (it’s not that early i’m just super dramatic). Plus we have classes, internships and those assignments they keep giving us.

IMG-20150205-06051 (3)

(Notice in the first photo how pretty it looks though at 7:30-ish in the morning, the trees have so much life to them, the snow has a nice white look to it and they shoveled the pathway on my street this time so i’m not struggling with every step.)

Now, when us bitchin’ radio kids get up early and head over to the on-air studios or class or editing studios we need a few supplies before we get things rolling. We need headphones (super important)! Having this let’s us really really hate our voices and want to apologize to everyone who has ever spoken to us.

IMG-20150205-06052

We need mics. (duh)… i mean doesn’t radio and mics kinda go together obviously. Like egg rolls and mash potatoes, or egg rolls and french vanilla ice cream, or egg rolls and miracle whip. Egg rolls.

IMG-20150205-06056 (2)

(I PITY THE FOOL WHO FORGETS THEIR MIC AT HOME)

We also need tons of USB’s to save all that recording, editing and scripts onto. I have about 3 that I always use and then i got like 4 other back ups just in case and then i save those files on the USB onto my computer just in case anything gets lost, you gotta back that sh*t  up!  (being in radio has also made me paranoid).

IMG-20150205-06065 (2)

(I wanted this picture to be blurry cause it shows the life as a radio student gets blurry with work.) (just go along with it)

And of course even though we all up in that technology business I personally love still having some pens, pencils, and paper to write ALL those radio scripts …and love letters to my one true love. (you know who you are) *Heart*

IMG-20150205-06069 (2)

By the time you’ve wrote, produced and edit all your final projects and possibly being on air on the same day its already like 9pm and you’re like, “cool guess eating wasn’t a priority today.”

IMG-20150205-06070

But you look at your final projects and you’re like, ” Not eating for 24 hours was soo worth it cause this commercial is pretty darn cool.” So that makes you kinda happy!

IMG-20150205-06072 (3)

(even though your stomach is clearly eating itself)

Along with being on air, producing stuff, class and internships you try your best to promote radio humber so people (your mom, dad and Sir Dean) listen to you. (He’s always listening….I learned that the hard way)

IMG-20150205-06078 (2)

(Who doesn’t like buttons?! Promoting the station with buttons makes people wanna listen)

So at the end of the day you gather all your stuff….

IMG-20150205-06067 (3)

Take a selfie…

IMG-20141007-05319 (2)

(The mic is really the star, I mean, it’s a pretty darn cool looking mic)

And you walk, bus, run, skip, drive or fly home really late at night.

IMG-20150205-06051 (4)

Cause you my good friend, have the life of a Radio Humber student. 🙂

and here’s a picture of a bush….

Summer 2014: Festivals, DJs, Best Friends, and Memories To Last a Lifetime

For those who know me, I’m a die-hard fan of everything electronic dance music. ‘Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat’ is pretty much my life motto. So what I wanted to do was share my best summer so far in picture form. Its only fitting since this weather sucks and I’m dying for festival season to return once again.

IMG_2083

We begin first off with celebrating my 19th birthday over at my new favourite club besides Guv (#RIP *sadface*), The Hoxton. The crew and I went to check out a DJ we’ve been dying to see for a long time, Julian Jordan. Ironically he’s our age as well and to see him live was really a treat. Being right up front and centre in the first row (as seen below) to experience the madness happen while dancing my ass off will be a memory I’ll never forget.

IMG_2086

Move forward just a couple weeks later to Canada Day long weekend. The biggest dance music festival in all of Canada is upon us, and the crew is back in full force for Digital Dreams. Two days of great music, partying, and more memories. My favourite moment of that entire weekend had to have been Dash Berlin‘s epic set. Words can not even begin to describe what I felt for those 90 minutes. It was magical, amazing, and one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. Especially when the downpour of heavy rain came down upon us all, we still danced and went even harder. To experience that moment of euphoria was truly a blessing because I may never get a similar moment like that ever.

IMG_2143

And I just have to share this next picture of the MASSIVE and epic mainstage from Digital Dreams. You had to see this in person to understand its sheer size. Its the biggest outdoor stage in Canada, and it looked absolutely amazing. Just look at it and the 80,000+ people in awe of it raving together as one.

IMG_2124

Fast forward to the next holiday long weekend, all the way in the beginning of August. And of course, there’s another festival for that. We set our sights on Veld Music Festival over at Downsview Park. It was yet another weekend of madness, one which ended in us getting superbly hammered, partying nonstop for 48 hours straight (literally), and in me needing a new phone thanks to the rain damaging it entirely. This is just one of very few photos I was able to recover, probably the best one in all honesty.

IMG_2518

Of course, we had to have this summer go out with one last bang. So why not head down to Cabana Pool Bar right on Polson Pier for some good music, good vibes, beautiful girls in bikinis, and day drinking. Of course, it was another long weekend but the last one of the summer. From day till night we partied on and had another great time that we would never forget. Plus the sunset by the pier was absolutely beautiful that night, as you’ll see below.

IMG_2296 (1)

It was quite the summer indeed, one that will go down in my life as one of the best. It was all thanks to the festivals, the DJs, my crew of best friends, and all these glorious memories that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life, wherever it may lead me.

Keep it PLUR and spread the love – yours truly,

Christian Caputo

What is it like being in a Radio program at Humber College?

With over 25,000 students enrolled at Humber college wether its part-time or full-time, there are a lot of people. But what is it like being in Radio Broadcasting? Well, this about sums it all up.

IMG_2768-2

To start, we have a nice place where we can just lounge and relax for the five minute breaks we have in-between classes, those people you see on the left, they could be talking about the the weather, the hot girl that just walked by but the concerned look on their faces tells me they are probably talking about the Paul Cross Assignment that no one understood but were to scared to say it in class to avoid “The look.” The people that are left in my Radio Broadcasting program are great, Being on 96.9 Radio Humber is great but don’t let Geoff fool you.

IMG_2769

his thumbs up tells us everything is good and he’s got everything under control.. when in reality, it probably isn’t, but we are just going to act like it is anyways because thats what we do. We make mistakes, we laugh at them because “Live mic” is suppose to mean be quite, but if you listened to the station, you would know it means the opposite of that, Right Gunn? We all work hard because we know this is a tough industry to crack and even tougher to stay in it, so working hard is a must.

IMG_2774

sometimes, its needed. in the long run it will all pay off for everyone, now that look in Andrews face is the look of determination, passion, hard work, or if we all know Gunn the way we think we do, he’s probably getting ready for a nap. he’s probably in the back left corner right now about to KO. Its hard work. no body gives you a chance, so you need to take chances. when its all said and done, sometimes you just can’t make it home. Sometimes you just need a nap..

IMG_2776

It isn’t all for nothing, some of us just want it that bad.. to be in the business, not the sleep. Although some people might feel differently..

IMG_2775

At the end of the day, we all either went home or stuck around to be on air all night and have some more good laughs while people mess up on air, or forget we are on air and start to tell their life stories.. it always happens at the most inopportune times, but it always makes us laugh, sometimes people can’t even get through their T&E… Philly know what I’m talking about. The reward is doing well and getting closer to getting that first gig in the business. But for some, We also have something to look at..

FullSizeRender

Now i can’t truthfully say I have any idea who that is and honestly, thats not a very good example, but it is what it is. at the end of the day, being in the radio program is great, We learn a lot and the future is looking bright. This is just the start.

A toast to Radio Humber’s class of 2015!

athena

Meet Athena. My husband and I brought her into our little family in August 2014. She’s a seven year old beagle mix who we got from the Toronto Humane Society. I don’t know much about her past life, but I do know that the shelter said that she was the loudest dog they had. I also know that she was transferred there from another shelter that got overcrowded, so it seems like she spent quite a bit of time stuck in a cage, and without the love of a family. And you can’t see it in this picture, but she has so many teats on her stomach that she probably had about seven or eight litters of puppies in her life. So I have reason to believe that she might have been rescued from a mill.

This picture was taken the day after we brought her home, and as you can see, she’s smiling. Plus she rarely barks at all now. So what does this have to do with radio broadcasting?

Well, as it seems to be with my dog, I’ve had quite a bit of tragedy for someone my age. I watched both parents suffer from cancer and end up in an early grave. My brother died of a heart attack three years ago at 37 years old. And one of my best friends took his life two years ago – I had no idea he was even depressed. I figured I have a choice – I can either let all that stuff wear me down, or I can try my best to have a happy life despite all that craziness. So I left behind a career that I hated with the intention of giving radio a chance. I always thought it was interesting, and I am a music lover, but I got talked out of it before because of how competitive the business is. However, life is too short to spend doing things you hate.

drum2

One of the reasons why I’ve always had an interest in radio is because I love music. I’ve played guitar, trombone, and piano, but my drums are my favorite. First of all, it gives me something to hit really hard when I am stressed. Second of all, jamming with your friends or even playing along to a CD is always fun.

Plus, if you look at the markings on the skins of the drums, you can see that I’ve had a lot of practice (and that I need to replace the skins soon). Every time I practice, I get a little better (and get a little closer to my goal of learning how to play at least one Rush song). Well, the same rings true for radio. If you want to be a good announcer, you HAVE to practice your art, which we clearly have. Think about how far we’ve all come since starting this program. Most of us (myself included) were terrible on the mic and/or on the air at first! But we have all worked very hard and each one of us is so much better than we were when we first started. And just as my dog has found the love and support she needs, we’ve found lots of love and support in each other too.

Let’s hear it for Radio Humber’s class of 2015!!!!

toast

Rewind.

Liseth_Choices

Think back to a few years ago. You were at home, work, a friend’s house or whenever, on a computer, choosing a college/ university to go to. So many choices in front of you, so many programs. you thought this would be a straight decision but it instead, as if you were on a curvy road, you dipped and dodged schools and programs until you found this baby.

Eliel_Happy_edit

Sent in your application, came to do the essay, spoke with Sheila, Neil, Robyn or whoever and a few weeks later, you were accepted into the family. You were as happy as a kid in a candy store, or in this case, like my nephew going into bath time.

Max_Capacity_edit

Feel special because out of the hundreds of applicants and wannabe’s, you were the most special and talented one. out of 70 open spots, 1 had your name on it. you made it into the limited capacity.

Jawbreakers_edit

YOU rose above the rest, during the interview process. As an announcer and newscaster, you talked your ASS OFF, during that meeting, so much so that you can call yourself a jawbreaker.

Pathways_edit

Pathways were introduced in 2nd semester. So many choices. your friends are going down one way but where did YOU want to end up? Take the wrong pathway, and you could slip, fall and break you confidence. You took a step back, looked at all your options and chose wisely.

Tetris_editYou chose a pathway that you felt, you’d fall right into place with. This picture also represents the production pathway. Producers, help create and build, put together, commercials and shows. making sure EVERY unique, speical and sepereate piece sticks and fits together to keep the game running smoothly. Like Tetris.

Construction2_edit

You’ve put heart and soul into everything you’ve done so far for this program. Constantly working hard. Like a constuction worker. when we started, that building was just getting built. Just like you were. Our profs are the ones who mold us, give us a strong foundation, insulate us with knowledge. Even with distrations around us, you stayed focused. Now, that building outside is almost complete. Just like you will be in April.

It takes time to build a strong, steady and long lasting structure.

Eliel_crying_edit

uncomfortable. not knowing what to expect. fear. the thing we all felt when we sat in front of a live mic for the first time.

My sister is going to kill me for using this picture but still.

Station_home_editBut you know what. that helped us build confidence. Now, the station is your home. a place where you’re secure, confortable and can relax.

Board_edit

in the begiining this was like readeing chinese or playing twister for the 1st time.  moving all over the place, getting tangled up. now, it’s second nature. BUT even though we’re off, the pressue is always on.

Relationships_editin the past 2 years, we’ve made amazing friendships and some of us have made fantastic relationships. Even between the 01s and 02s, we’ve mixed with one another and become one. 01s are still the best, but i digress.

On-Air_sign_edit

the ultimate goal is still the same as it was since day 1. make it….in radio.

Career Prep Class with Special Guest Speakers Robert Turner and Jessie Lorraine

Yesterday Radio Humber’s Career Preparation class met with Robert Turner, host The Early Edition on Newstalk 1010 and Technical Producer for the Moore in the Morning Show on that station. The class also met Jessie Lorraine, who is the Content Producer for the Moore in the Morning Show on Newstalk 1010.

In a class that is mostly students who are training to be announcers, it was nice to get some perspective from people who are on the other side of the board. While on-air personalities are vital to the success of a radio station, the people behind the scenes are just as important. That being said though, they both gave a lot of great advice that students interested in any aspect of radio can take away.

Both guests stressed the importance of internships. Turner interned with Newstalk 1010 as a technical producer while in high school, and has spent his whole career there, and Lorraine interned at both Bayshore Broadcasting and the Fan 590 before getting paid work. Their advice to the students was to make yourself indispensable and work your way up.

“Do whatever they ask you to do,” Lorraine says. “Never say no, just be that person that they can’t live without, and you will get a job.”

It’s also important to be relentless in this line of work, yet you have to know how to talk to people. One of Lorraine’s job duties is to chase people down for interviews and/or quotes.

“You just have to be a really good competitor,” she says. “I like looking at obituaries for contacts. I just do whatever I can to find a name…I talk to people like I’m their best friend.”

Lorraine really stressed the point that you have to have nerves of steel for her job. Which is true in other aspects of radio as well. Just as an announcer can’t take every listener’s criticism to heart, a chase producer can’t take it personally if someone is not willing to go on the air to talk.

“You’re going to call a lot of people, and a lot of people will tell you to screw off, right”, she said. “But one person will take off and want to come on, and then you’re golden.”

Their main advice to students in regards to nailing the job interview is to do your research.

“I’m sort of in the unique situation that I’m also on the air” Turner says. “So it’s hilarious when people come in and don’t know who I am, because it means that they just didn’t go to the website.”

They mentioned the importance of continually learning on the job, even if you have had the same position for ten years. Adaptability is a must.

“Change is the only constant”, Turner says. “I technically have the same job I did ten years ago, but I’m doing lots of different type stuff, different technology”

The Gunn Show: My thoughts on the Leafs season thus far

Hello, I’m Andrew Gunn. And this is once again, another edition of The Gunn Show blog. In this entry, I’m going to talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs season thus far, through the first 28 games.

I have been a Leafs fan for what feels like my entire life. I bleed blue, and I hardly ever miss a game. And while I am a huge fan of the team and a big supporter, I can also say with confidence that this team is not easy to watch. They’re not easy to cheer for either. They have such a great history and a terrific fanbase, but lately, they have not been able to please the fans for any extended period of time. They have not been able to win consistently and it is frustrating to say the least.

This season (so far) is another good form of proof that you don’t know what you’re gonna get with this team. They’ve let the fans down numerous times so far this season, and yet still manage to regain their hope and support by stringing some wins together. They currently, as of December 10th, sit 6th in the Eastern Conference, and if the season ended today, would make the playoffs. However, as Leaf fans know all too well, the season does not end 28 games into the season and where they sit in the standings near Christmas time don’t really mean a whole lot. There are some terrific positives with this team. They have a very adequate offense, lead by the likes of Phil Kessel, James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak, Joffrey Lupul and Nazem Kadri. They also have a stellar goaltender in Jonathan Bernier. There are lots of things to be excited about with this team. There are also some things that leave the fans with wonder. This team has flaws, there is no doubt about that. Their defense is shaky, average at best. Their ability to play with a lead, or play their way out of a deficit, lack a great deal. This team is far from perfect, and while everyone is excited about the team is playing right now, there are still questions for concern. Can this team beat the Montreal Canadiens or Boston Bruins in a 7 game playoff series? Can they play with a level of intensity that if not exceeds, at least matches the opponent? That remains to be seen. I believe if the Leafs want to not only make the playoffs, but win a round or two, they need to improve on a few things. One being defense. If I’m General Manager Dave Nonis, I’m looking to acquire a top 4 defenseman before the trade deadline rolls around. I know it’s still very early in the season but I look at teams out of a playoff picture that may have a d-man to spare. I look at Carolina d-man Andrej Sekera, Devils d-man Andy Greene, Blue Jackets’ Jack Johnson and the Stars Trevor Daley. All very good options to upgrade on defense. I also look at adding another top 6/top 9 forward, that not only brings offense but brings leadership as well. I think about Shane Doan of the Coyotes, Travis Zajac of the Devils, Eric Staal of the Hurricanes and Erik Cole of the Stars. I think if the Leafs could manage to acquire one or two of the guys I mentioned, they definitely improve their chances of being competitive. One can only hope Dave Nonis is thinking the same thing. GO LEAFS GO.

Everybodys got a Story: Todd Shapiro

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to sit down and Todd-Shapiro-Show1-614x307interview one of Sirius XMs finest and of course hard working radio personalities…Todd Shapiro.

Todd and I had a quick talk while I was working on the Humble and Fred show, and asked him if I could interview him, for a segment I like to call: Everybodys got a Story.

Todd agreed to the interview, but only if we could conduct the interview…Live on his on Sirius XM radio show. How awesome is that? I was super excited, and in was, for a fact, a huge opportunity for me, that I could not say no to.

So, I hope you enjoy my quick but insightful interview with Todd Shapiro on Everybodys got a Story.

The Gunn Show: Blue Jays Offseason

Hello everyone. This is another edition of The Gunn Show with a blog about the Toronto Blue Jays Offseason.

I love what the Jays have done so far during the offseason. They’ve brought in some very talented players and they have certainly improved their team so far. The first big player they brought in was catcher Russell Martin. This is a great pickup. They overspent to get him and he doesn’t quite deserve the amount of money he got, but he’s a great addition to this team. He brings some much needed leadership to the clubhouse to go with very solid offensive numbers. He’s also very good behind the plate. He’s great at calling games and taking control. He’s one of the best catchers in the league when it comes to pitch framing, which is a lot more important than some people think. Pitch framing is basically receiving the ball from a pitcher in a certain way that makes the pitch look like a strike, even when sometimes it may not be. Martin is also a very good hitter, hitting for both decent power and contact. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt he’s a Canadian boy.

The other big time player they’ve acquired is third baseman Josh Donaldson. They picked him up in a trade with the Oakland Athletics that sent Canadian, fan favourite Brett Lawrie from Toronto to Oakland. Josh Donaldson is an unbelievable player. His defense at third base is spectacular. He, like Martin, also brings some great leadership to the clubhouse, which the team desperately needed more of. Donaldson is also a very good hitter. He’s received MVP votes for the last two seasons and has been able to hit the ball out of the ballpark on a consistent basis. Bringing in Donaldson and Martin were huge for GM Alex Anthopoulos and the Jays and I love the moves, however, I do believe there is more work to be done this offseason, before we can start calling this team a true threat to win. Most importantly, they need an ace pitcher. They need a guy who can anchor the starting rotation and take the ball every 5 days and go out and give a consistent effort and log innings. The rotation is very young with Marcus Stroman, Drew Hutchison and Aaron Sanchez, and with the help of veteran Mark Buehrle, they have the chance to be a very competitive team if they get a true ace starting pitcher. A few starting pitchers I’d like to see the Jays pursue include James Shields, Max Scherzer, Cole Hamels, Jordan Zimmermann, Derek Holland and Brett Anderson.

They also need a strong bullpen. After losing Casey Janssen, Dustin McGowan and Brandon Morrow to free agency, their bullpen has become very thin and needs to be bolstered before the season starts. Pitching in general plays a huge part in a team’s success, and a very good bullpen can go a long way. Some relievers that I would like to see the Blue Jays try and acquire would be Greg Holland, Jason Motte, John Axford, Matt Lindstrom and Sergio Romo. The team also needs a starting 2nd baseman. 2nd base has been a position that’s needed to be filled basically since Aaron Hill was with Toronto in 2011. We’ve seen guys like Kelly Johnson, Emilio Bonifacio and Maicer Izturis man 2nd base and while they managed, they weren’t good enough to help the team win. A few guys I have in mind that I believe the Jays should go after are Asdrubal Cabrera, Jed Lowrie or Chase Utley.

Overall, the Blue Jays offseason has been pretty successful so far, but is far from complete and I hope to see Alex Anthopoulos pull off a few more moves before the season begins in April of 2015. Thanks for reading, this is The Gunn Show.

Like good things, all bad things come to end.

The last two weeks of semester 3, have been absolute hell, but now as the last week before Christmas break draws to a painful end I can safely say one thing: I have learned a helluva lot about myself, the good, the bad and the ugly. This blog post is going to be a more personal, reflective one because I would like to share what I have learned as well as to pose this question: Who are YOU?

Who am I? I am Olivia.

I am a Radio Broadcasting student who procrastinates when I’m stressed and have no motivation. I push myself until I wear myself thin to the point of bulging at the seams. I get frustrated when assignments don’t go my away and I get upset when I feel like my hard work isn’t appreciated. I get fed up when I’m tired and when I’m happy I feel invincible.

None of those are particularly great qualities to have being in my second year of college; but I’ve grown to accept the fact that slowly I am going to have to realise that I cannot do everything and that not everything is going to work out but to know my hard work is always seen and appreciated. I have also got to learn to breathe,

But despite all of that; I have also grown to learn the past few weeks that I actually love who I am regardless.

And that is something everyone needs to do; love themselves regardless.

Also, I learned one more important thing…

I really, really, really cannot wait to sleep for a month.

Love always,
Olivia, xo

Box Office Blunders: Merry CRAPmas

This Movie’s Director should forever be on the naughty list.

This week’s Box Office Blunder’s BLOGcast has a seasonal flare to it. Christmas is in 2 weeks so today, I’m talking about the ALL TIME WORST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER!

For some reason Christmas flicks are never really that good. There are more hits than misses. Elf, Home Alone, and the other classic movies like, clamation Rudolph are all great but you can probably count the good christmas movies on one hand.

So this week, I had to do some real good and indepth research to choose the #1 Worst Christmas Movie of all time.

The hard working and intelligent staff at Box Office Blunders, my brain, was put through intense obstacles to find it but I think you can agree that I did a good job.

Here’s a perfect song as you unwrap your not so perfect christmas gift:

 SURPRISE!

Christmas With The Kranks (2004)

christmas_with_the_kranks

This movie graced the movie screen 10 years ago! AMC theatres was still around….I know….

Then it immediately graced those $5 movie bins at Wal-Mart.

If you seen it, you know how BAD it actually was. If you haven’t, I applaud you. Might have been the smartest choice in your lifetime. I’m not going to talk about ANY scenes or anything. I’m not going to waste your time or my time. If you took a girl or guy out to watch this movie on a date. That’s why you’re single now.

At first, you thought, oh? Tim Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Aykroyd, pretty good line up of actors, it should be good. *Buzzer sound* NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Instead of them skipping Christmas, they should have skipped making this movie.

The movie poster should have been a warning to all of us. “NO!” don’t go watch this.

The acting, plot, “funny” parts and liners were horrible. R. Kelly could have written a better movie and he can’t even read or write!

Trust me picking this movie for the worst christmas movie of all time wasn’t easy. It was honestly torture. I re-watched every trailer of every possible candidate (couldn’t manage to watch the entire movie) and after 30 seconds of watching the trailer, I knew I found the winner.

HONERABLE MENTIONS:

Deck The Halls (2006)

deck_the_halls

Jingle All The Way (1996)

Jingle-All-The-Way-Poster

Fred Claus (2007)

Bad Santa (2003)

Do you agree with my choice? What’s the worst christmas movie YOU ever watched? Slide into my DMs and let me know! Until next week, Merry CRAPmas and Happy Poo Year! (I had to)

Mancave – Starting Five basketball roster… Using Radio Humber Broadcasting students

Man Cave
Hello Mancavers,

On today’s edition of the Mancave Blog, I’m creating a starting five roster using only Radio Humber Broadcasting students.

Since I’m totally the best Fantasy Sports GM in the program, I think it’s fair that I’m the General Manager of this team.

But, I totally believe in the idea of 2 heads are better than one, so my Assistant General Manager is…

Andrew Gunn – Assistant General Manager

IMG-20141204-05670

Why Andrew? Well to borrow a quote from my man James Freitas. “He’s the hardest working man in fantasy sports.”

Now a team is only as good as it’s Head Coach. A leader, who can draw up the X’s and O’s and manage egos. Who better for that than…

Peter Petrini – Head Coach

Petrinies

Why Peter Petrini? The guy is a dedicated season ticket holder of the Toronto Raptors. And no, not the last 2 years when they’ve been good. I’m talking for 10 years now. This guy lived through the Primo Pasta Andrea Bargnani era. Talk about dedication.

Now as for the Roster. My Starting Center… I need someone tall (Obviously), but more importantly, I want a bad dude there. Someone that knows he’s the shit. For that I got…

Joseph Castillo – Center

Why Joey? I thought about Tyler Barr and Geoffrey Mendelssohn due to their Vertical attributes. However I went with Castillo because I think he has a little Pau Gasol to his game. (Totally making a Hispanic reference for no reason).

Next, my team needs a solid ass dude at Powerforward. Someone who’s down to ride for the cause. Someone with some personality. I’m talking my own version of Charles Barkley. Enter…

David Bunsie – Power Forward

Next up I had to think long and hard about my Small Forward. I wanted a defensive stopper. Someone who can take a star player (or student) and get them off their A-Game. Like my very own Bruce Bowen to guard Kobe Bryant. There was only one choice for this…

Phillys O.G – Small Forward

I know what you’re thinking… I can’t trust Phillys. She’s a loose cannon. You and her don’t get along… Well my answer to that is, if she gets out of line, my head coach Peter Petrini has permission to Bobby Knight her ass.

On to Shooting Guard. I wanted someone with pinpoint accuracy. Someone with a steady hand. Someone who’s not afraid to take the big shot in the big moment.

Zachary Bourdages – Shooting Guard

Surprised? Don’t be. Have you seen the photos Zak shoots? Take this one for example.

008_7.JPGI can’t tell if this was a guy taking a random picture, or Time Magazine’s Cover photo for Man of the year.

And we finally get to the Floor General. Someone who needs a huge amount of basketball knowledge, and who’s coordinated. Someone who makes the offense work as one. Who better than…

Jared LaunchBurli – Point Guard

Why Jared? Isn’t it obvious? Have you guys seen his hat and shoe collection? This guy dresses the part, surely he’s got some skills on the hardwood. Plus I would be remissed if I didn’t mention he won our Fantasy Basketball championship. Obviously this guy’s basketball I.Q is off the hook.

Anyways, there you have it. To recap quickly
GM – George Tsilfidis
Assistant GM – Andrew Gunn
Head Coach – Peter Petrini
Center – Joseph Castillo
Power Forward – David Bunsie
Small Forward – Phillys O.G
Shooting Guard – Zachary Bourdages
Point Guard – Jared LaunchBurli

That’s my squad. And I challenge the other half of the program to come up with a better starting five than ours!

Until next time Mancavers…

Mancave – V-Log on how to fail an exam in 3 easy steps.

Man CaveHello Mancavers,
We are less than 48 hours away from the end of school and I just completed my last exam. And by completed, I mean failed my ass off.

How you ask?

With three simple steps.

Enjoy!

Let me know if you yourself are also an expert at this three step plan.
