Mancave – Starting Five basketball roster… Using Radio Humber Broadcasting students

Man Cave
Hello Mancavers,

On today’s edition of the Mancave Blog, I’m creating a starting five roster using only Radio Humber Broadcasting students.

Since I’m totally the best Fantasy Sports GM in the program, I think it’s fair that I’m the General Manager of this team.

But, I totally believe in the idea of 2 heads are better than one, so my Assistant General Manager is…

Andrew Gunn – Assistant General Manager

IMG-20141204-05670

Why Andrew? Well to borrow a quote from my man James Freitas. “He’s the hardest working man in fantasy sports.”

Now a team is only as good as it’s Head Coach. A leader, who can draw up the X’s and O’s and manage egos. Who better for that than…

Peter Petrini – Head Coach

Petrinies

Why Peter Petrini? The guy is a dedicated season ticket holder of the Toronto Raptors. And no, not the last 2 years when they’ve been good. I’m talking for 10 years now. This guy lived through the Primo Pasta Andrea Bargnani era. Talk about dedication.

Now as for the Roster. My Starting Center… I need someone tall (Obviously), but more importantly, I want a bad dude there. Someone that knows he’s the shit. For that I got…

Joseph Castillo – Center

Why Joey? I thought about Tyler Barr and Geoffrey Mendelssohn due to their Vertical attributes. However I went with Castillo because I think he has a little Pau Gasol to his game. (Totally making a Hispanic reference for no reason).

Next, my team needs a solid ass dude at Powerforward. Someone who’s down to ride for the cause. Someone with some personality. I’m talking my own version of Charles Barkley. Enter…

David Bunsie – Power Forward

Next up I had to think long and hard about my Small Forward. I wanted a defensive stopper. Someone who can take a star player (or student) and get them off their A-Game. Like my very own Bruce Bowen to guard Kobe Bryant. There was only one choice for this…

Phillys O.G – Small Forward

I know what you’re thinking… I can’t trust Phillys. She’s a loose cannon. You and her don’t get along… Well my answer to that is, if she gets out of line, my head coach Peter Petrini has permission to Bobby Knight her ass.

On to Shooting Guard. I wanted someone with pinpoint accuracy. Someone with a steady hand. Someone who’s not afraid to take the big shot in the big moment.

Zachary Bourdages – Shooting Guard

Surprised? Don’t be. Have you seen the photos Zak shoots? Take this one for example.

008_7.JPGI can’t tell if this was a guy taking a random picture, or Time Magazine’s Cover photo for Man of the year.

And we finally get to the Floor General. Someone who needs a huge amount of basketball knowledge, and who’s coordinated. Someone who makes the offense work as one. Who better than…

Jared LaunchBurli – Point Guard

Why Jared? Isn’t it obvious? Have you guys seen his hat and shoe collection? This guy dresses the part, surely he’s got some skills on the hardwood. Plus I would be remissed if I didn’t mention he won our Fantasy Basketball championship. Obviously this guy’s basketball I.Q is off the hook.

Anyways, there you have it. To recap quickly
GM – George Tsilfidis
Assistant GM – Andrew Gunn
Head Coach – Peter Petrini
Center – Joseph Castillo
Power Forward – David Bunsie
Small Forward – Phillys O.G
Shooting Guard – Zachary Bourdages
Point Guard – Jared LaunchBurli

That’s my squad. And I challenge the other half of the program to come up with a better starting five than ours!

Until next time Mancavers…

Mancave – V-Log on how to fail an exam in 3 easy steps.

Man CaveHello Mancavers,
We are less than 48 hours away from the end of school and I just completed my last exam. And by completed, I mean failed my ass off.

How you ask?

With three simple steps.

Enjoy!

Let me know if you yourself are also an expert at this three step plan.

https://i0.wp.com/www.nottinghampianolessons.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Sons-of-Anarchy-Wallpapers-15.jpg

If you’re still with me, welcome! I wanted to follow up from my prediction blog and see how many I got right. At the same time, I wanted to also review the finale and give my thoughts on it.

Sons of Anarchy in it’s completion is now in my Top 3 shows of all time.

It has now joined the likes of The Sopranos
https://i0.wp.com/image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Arts/Arts_/Pictures/2007/05/23/sopranos460.jpg
And Oz

So without further adoo/adiue/adu, here’s my V-Log!

Enjoy!

Mancave – Everybody’s got a Story

Man CaveHey loyal Mancavers,

I’m back with another blog post. And this time it’s got a feature I did on a local rapper named East Side Dezzy a.k.a Jeremiah Kiriopolous. He’s got one hell of a story to tell, as he not only was in and out of jail growing up, he also lost his mother at the age of 19.

You can see the tattoo on his neck is the day she died. (November 11th, 2005).

As if that wasn’t enough, in 2007 he almost lost his life when he got shot two times.

I was fortunate enough to interview him, and tell his story.

I produced and narrated the feature.

Listen up and enjoy.

If you like his music or his story, you can check out more of him by clicking here.

Also if you’re an artist or know of any artists, then hit my twitter up for inquiries into getting your own feature done by me. https://twitter.com/GeorgeTsilfidis

Mancave – Sons Of Anarchy Finale Predictions

Man CaveAs you may know about me, from my Top 5 Movie Villain Podcast, I love the BAD GUY! I love me some organized crime movies or T.V Series’

So it should come as no surprise that I’ve been watching the Sons of Anarchy, and sadly the show is coming to a close tonight.

https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/fr/0/06/Key_art_sons_of_anarchy.jpg
Now like most movie/T.V aficionado’s, I make predictions for how I think things will end. I have a lot of expectations for the ending of S.O.A, and decided to make 5 predictions for the finale.

1.) The main character Jax Teller will die…

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/67/5e/03/675e03c07aaf1729f16f2478f883b9d3.jpg
Now I know this isn’t a bold prediction, as a lot of people have predicted this. So I’ll take one further. Not only will Jax die. The entire motorcycle gang will die as well. The show teased in last week’s episode that he would die due to a Mayhem vote. For those who aren’t aware, that’s when the rest of your club votes to have you killed. But I think that’s a swerve. There was a character at the end of season 1 or 2 named Ethan Zobelle.

https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7f/EthanZobelle.jpg/250px-EthanZobelle.jpg
He was an enemy that they had cornered and had an opportunity to kill, however they let him live after rushing to Jax’s aid to find his son who was kidnapped. Now they had ample opportunity to kill him, and in fact, he is the only enemy that they had, that disappeared and didn’t die. They never mentioned him again. And that’s the “Surprise”. I’ve had this theory for about a season or two now, and have talked to several people about it. And they don’t agree with me, or didn’t think of it. (If this happens, I’m a genius. Just stating that, right now.) What I actually think happens is they are going to be taking the Mayhem vote, and he will show up and shoot the entire club. Anyways, on to prediction 2. (I Promise they won’t be as long).

2.) Nero Padilla dies.

https://i0.wp.com/img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20141001204426/sonsofanarchy/images/e/ed/Nero_704.png

Sad I know. Why should he die. He’s a lovable man with integrity that’s an O.G. He just wants to get to the farm with his son. And that’s the reason I think he’s going to die. His past will catch up to him. Plus it’ll make people really sad. (I’m all about good characters dying in movies.)

3.) The Grim Bastards become the first black members of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle gang.

https://i0.wp.com/www.imarider.com/file/attachment/2012/10/d09e0b10d14b3e23732cd0aee63bc24b.jpg

I know they’ve already hinted at it, and it’s not exactly a bold prediction, but not everything that is supposed to happen does.

4.) Alvarez stabs the SONS in the back.

https://i0.wp.com/ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTc0NTg1OTQ3MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjgyMDE0Ng@@._V1_SX214_CR0,0,214,317_AL_.jpgWhy? Because he was the first enemy we learned about in the show. He has a rival motorcycle gang. We’re supposed to believe there’s peace between the gangs? I don’t think so. I think they purposely kept the 2 gangs from beefing so that they could save it for one last episode.

5.) Over 40 People die in this last episode.

http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140304172912/sonsofanarchy/images/3/37/Randall_(1).jpgThat’s right. This will be the most gory episode in T.V history. I think the bodies are going to hit the Floor.
Cue the music….

Anyways those are my predictions for tonight. I’ll have updates tomorrow with how many predictions I actually got right.

If you agree or disagree with any of my predictions, or have some of your own, I want to here about. Hit my Twitter account up right here.

Mancave Podcast – Birthday Edition – With Dilan Avila

Man CaveHere we go… Another edition of the Mancave podcast, with special co-host Dilan Avila.

And today’s episode is the Birthday edition. That’s right, Dilan Avila and myself are both Sagittariuses or is it Sagittariai? No clue what the plural is for Sagittarius. And now I’ve gone and said the word one too many times.

Anyways, like we said, its the Birthday edition.

https://i0.wp.com/webcodeshools.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/063840-Sports_Birthday_Cake.jpgNo clue who Carter/Couter is but thought the cake looked great when I saw it.

On the podcast we talk about our favourite, and not so favourite birthday moments.

Plus we sing the Birthday song to… each other.

All about that bromance.

https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/425070140439662592/hoooQqxm.jpegWell, we’re NOT that close.

Anyways here’s the podcast.

We want to know what’s the best or worst present you’ve ever received.

Hit me up on twitter right here.

Or Dilan Avila right here.

Take Care

My 3rd favourite night of the year.

Man CaveWelcome to another edition of the Mancave… This time in blog form. I know what you’re thinking. Why a blog instead of one of those great podcasts you do?

Well I wanted a chance to give something back to the aspiring journalists who prefer to read… Who am I kidding? I had more projects than New York City.

Note to self: Better time management in the future.

Anyways I’m rambling, but I am really excited right now. Because I am one sleep away from my 3rd favourite night of the year… That’s right, AMERICAN THANKSGIVING!!! Or Translation: FOOTBALL FANATICS LAZY DAY!

How can you beat three games of football, once a year, on a Thursday?

For my entire school and work life, I have always booked off the Thursday. And by book off, I mean played hooky!

https://i0.wp.com/weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/watch-out-we-got-a-badass-over-here-meme.pngAnd yet, this year I will sadly be breaking the streak 😦

I guess being a professional looking to break into the radio industry has taken priority in my life.

Anyways, I will join my American brethren tomorrow night in my 3rd favourite day of the year.

What’s my 2 favourites you ask? Birthday and Christmas? Maybe New Years?

Nope.

Opening Sunday of the NFL Season, and the NFL Draft.

I would have said Superbowl, but my Dolphins don’t know what that is.

https://pablochiste.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/72539529_81.jpgThat’s it for me. Sports fans, I wanna know if you have any thanksgiving rituals? If so, tweet me right here.

The Mancave Podcast… Karaoke Edition

Man Cave

Welcome to another edition of the Mancave Podcast!

As always I’m your host George Tsilfidis A.K.A G-Stack George, and on this weeks episode I’m hitting more high notes than an RnB singer.

I actually throw down and start singing in the podcast. Now for a little back-story, my father is a great singer and even gets paid to sing, and his father (my grandfather) was a great singer as well. Now while I did inherit the music gene, it wasn’t in a singing capacity.

At first I thought I’d be just as bad as William Hung.

For those who don’t get the reference, watch the video below.

But after hearing myself, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

That being said, without further adieu/ado/adoo, here’s this week’s Man Cave Podcast.

I wanna know what you think, was how good/bad was I? On a scale of 1-10.

Let me know by tweeting me here.

The Man Cave Video Blog – Getting worked up, while watching a football game

That moment your team loses the game with under a minute to go for the 2nd time this season...

That moment your team loses the game with under a minute to go for the 2nd time this season…

I know what you’re thinking…

What kind of crazy fan would get into a fight at a sporting event.

I mean people who spend their entire morning applying paint and accessories to support their team are mentally unstable right?New England Patriots Vs. Miami Dolphins At SunLife Stadium
Sports is just a game right? No grown man should actually cry over a sports team…

Cryting fanWell… I tend to think otherwise. Sports is not just a game. You create a bond with the team you watch. Sort of like your extended family. They’ll cause you happiness, sadness, and in my case sometimes… Sheer anger.

This is me, in the man cave, on a typical Sunday… Watching football.

Enjoy!

I wanna know what kind of a fanatic you are. What do YOU do while watching your team? Let me know right here.

Perspectives – By Clara Falcone and George Tsilfidis

Perspectives

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”
“You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes”

Those are just some of the cliches surrounding the idea of perspective…

Have you ever wondered what the other sex thinks?

Wonder what you have in common with someone who grew up completely different than you?

Perspectives is a podcast that was inspired by that thinking of trying to find out how you relate to someone opposite of you.

All these questions and more get answered in our podcast, but first a quick funny video that showcases how two people of the opposite sex, see the same situation completely different.

Our podcast is similar to that video…

Enjoy!

Stay tuned to Radio Humber Life every Thursday for weekly installments of Perspectives with Clara Falcone and George Tsilfidis!

Movie Talk with G-Stack George

Hey there and welcome to the weekly edition of Movie Talk… Now I know we usually critique movies, and discuss upcoming movies, but for today’s episode I decided to do something that’s near and dear to my heart… And that is showing love to the BAD GUY.

I have always loved the bad guy in all different facets of entertainment. I still remember one of my youngest memories of watching the Lion King with my dad and him getting mad that I was cheering for Scar.

I’m also a big time wrestling fan and my favourite group of all time was the NWO.

new_world_orderWith all that being said… My theme for this week’s edition of Movie Talk is my Top 5 Villains in a movie!

I want you to Tweet me @GstackGeorge and let me know who your favourite bad guys in movies are.

Next week we’re reviewing the movie The Judge.

College: What are we doing here?

confused-student“I would counsel people to go to college, because it’s one of the best times in your life in terms of who you
meet and develop a broad set of intellectual skills”
– Bill Gates

In my 13 months as a college student I’ve come to find out one thing about college… Everyone experiences it differently. Some come to find out that their program truly isn’t for them. Some find college as a whole is something they could do without. Some find their future significant others, or perhaps even new life long friends. And some obtain the necessary skills for their future careers.

Now before we continue with the rest of this blog, I want you to play this song in the background when reading the rest of it.

The truth is there is not one single right or wrong way to experience college. That’s determined by the person themselves. But whatever you do, I suggest a little bit of variety.

If you’re there to study and educate yourselves, don’t miss the opportunity to meet friends and go to some social events. Trust me, you will end up regretting it if you don’t.
Pina
By the same token, if you’re all about having a good time, partying, and hanging with friends, don’t just waste your tuition. Get that diploma that we’re all here to get. In the end of the day when you’re looking for a job having a diploma will be the only thing that shows. Not that you barely passed with 50’s and 60’s. Everyone loves the party animal, but there’s a time and place for everything.
Asian-Guy-Puking-At-ClubMy last piece of advice is that if you want to get the best of both worlds, why don’t you study your ass off and at the end of every semester throw a kick ass party! You’ll probably find yourself on the honour roll and have your parents proud of you… And you’ll also have the respect and admiration of all your peers as well.

As for what to do at the party? Here’s a link to a bunch of Party games. http://collegepartyguru.com/games/

I wanna know what your favourite and least favourite parts of college are.

Searching for my Mountain Top

mountain-03

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why” – Mark Twain

They say that parents who have their first-born, experience it that day in the hospital when the realization sinks in that they themselves are no longer priority #1 in their own lives, but that their children now are. At that moment everything you do in life is with the intention of your kids well-being. I’ve seen it in my own mother with me. When she divorced my father 25 years ago she never re-married. I’m sure the thought of not having someone to spend the twilight of her life with has crossed her mind, but I can tell she lives vicariously through me now. That’s what fuels my work ethic and drive, and anyone who knows me can vouch that I refused to be outworked. That story’s for another day though.

Back to finding out our purpose in life…

What about those of us who have no plans to procreate in the future? What is our “Uh huh moment”, and how do we find it. I’d like to get a little symbolic for a second.

There are 2 things that drive me more than anything in life. The happiness of my loved ones, and success. And it’s funny that as I’ve gotten older in life I realize how closely woven those 2 things are. I have a great support system, although not very big, and they will stand by me every step of the way in my life. I always reciprocate the love by giving them that very same support. It’s funny because surrounding yourself with positivity has a profound impact on our quality of life. Back to some symbolism for a second, I have a tendency to get off track sometimes. This is why a coffee and conversation with me could last a few hours and we wouldn’t even know it. There I did it again.

https://i0.wp.com/www.downeastcoffee.ca/sites/default/files/media/slides/coffee.png

Symbolism. I’d like to think in life that I’m climbing a mountain. There’s days where I make great strides up this mountain. There’s days where I sometime take a backwards step and go down. There’s days where I plateau and stay in the same spot. But for me this mountain is life. Each checkpoint on the mountain is a new success in life. Whether it be a new relationship, a new accomplishment at work or school, seeing my best friend have his first child. Whatever the case is, I enjoy that moment briefly, and then I chase the next great moment. So I continue on my climb, searching for the mountain top. Now I never see this mountain top, because I don’t like to put a limit on what I can accomplish in life. I’d like to think this mountain is infinite. The only thing that isn’t is your time on earth. So my theory is, that on my final day in life, I will finally be able to stop climbing the mountain because I will have reached the top. And at that moment I will look down at what I’ve accomplished in life and be proud of how far I’ve come.

https://i0.wp.com/www.shedexpedition.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/K2-Mountain-2.jpg

That is my theory on the question I asked to Mark Twain’s quote. If the day I am born is one of the two greatest days of my life, than the day I die is the other one. Because it will be on that day that I realize that the reason I was born, was to eventually die.

I’m not scared of my own death. It’s inevitable. The truth is, the only thing that makes life worth living, is that fact that we will eventually die.

Until then, it’s back to the mountain.

Balling On a Budget

Balling on a Budget

Hi I’m George Tsilfidis and I’m what you would call a mature student. I’m 27 years old and I’m entering my 2nd year in College, specifically the Radio Broadcasting program. When I graduated from High School I went directly into the workforce for 6 years. It wasn’t until reading a book “The Top Five regrets of the dying” that I realized I didn’t want to live a life where I was unhappy with the career I chose. That was 18 months ago, and here I am in the first month of my 2nd year at school, and I’m loving every minute of it. As for my blog, I will teach you how to have a social life on a budget.

Welcome to the college life… Where for the next 2-4 years you will become very familiar with Ramen noodles, Kraft Dinner, and RC Cola. Food won’t be the only thing that’s budgeted, as your social life will also take a hit and not just because you’re too busy studying for your classes (Yeah right). On top of having to learn the program that you’re in, you’ll also have to learn money management and prioritizing what you truly should spend your money on. I’ve been a student for 13 months now and on top of finding out how much I love being in the Radio program, I’ve also learned how to make $20 stretch real far. I’m going to give you some tips that I’ve discovered, (through trial and error… Yikes), on how to enjoy yourself without spending too much money.

Here’s a list of things that you can do without spending too much money…

Movie night
Go to Cineplex on Tuesdays – Cost is $6
Popcorn (Sneak your own bag in ) – Cost is 70 Cents at Walmart ($7 for a 10 pack)
Bring your own Drink – $1.50

Grand Total = $8.20. Factor in bus fare, and for less than $15 you can enjoy a night at the movies at least every other week.

Mystery Puzzle Night (Mission 45 Room Escape)
Go with a friend – $25 Total ($12.50 Each)
Go with 7 other Friends – $100 Total ($12.50 Each)

You Probably have never done something like this, but if you like critical thinking and are good at problem solving, this is a fun puzzle-like night where you and a group of friends can go together and have a fun night out for next to no money. There are four different game rooms with four different scenarios, some of which include recovering treasure from an ancient Mayan tomb or breaking out of prison. It requires teamwork and is a ton of fun.
If you want to check out Mission 45, hit the link for the address http://www.room-escape.ca/

These are just a couple of quick fun ideas for anyone looking for cheap affordable fun. Make sure you check out my next blog for more tips on how to have a Social life on a budget.
