Liseth_Choices

Think back to a few years ago. You were at home, work, a friend’s house or whenever, on a computer, choosing a college/ university to go to. So many choices in front of you, so many programs. you thought this would be a straight decision but it instead, as if you were on a curvy road, you dipped and dodged schools and programs until you found this baby.

Eliel_Happy_edit

Sent in your application, came to do the essay, spoke with Sheila, Neil, Robyn or whoever and a few weeks later, you were accepted into the family. You were as happy as a kid in a candy store, or in this case, like my nephew going into bath time.

Max_Capacity_edit

Feel special because out of the hundreds of applicants and wannabe’s, you were the most special and talented one. out of 70 open spots, 1 had your name on it. you made it into the limited capacity.

Jawbreakers_edit

YOU rose above the rest, during the interview process. As an announcer and newscaster, you talked your ASS OFF, during that meeting, so much so that you can call yourself a jawbreaker.

Pathways_edit

Pathways were introduced in 2nd semester. So many choices. your friends are going down one way but where did YOU want to end up? Take the wrong pathway, and you could slip, fall and break you confidence. You took a step back, looked at all your options and chose wisely.

Tetris_editYou chose a pathway that you felt, you’d fall right into place with. This picture also represents the production pathway. Producers, help create and build, put together, commercials and shows. making sure EVERY unique, speical and sepereate piece sticks and fits together to keep the game running smoothly. Like Tetris.

Construction2_edit

You’ve put heart and soul into everything you’ve done so far for this program. Constantly working hard. Like a constuction worker. when we started, that building was just getting built. Just like you were. Our profs are the ones who mold us, give us a strong foundation, insulate us with knowledge. Even with distrations around us, you stayed focused. Now, that building outside is almost complete. Just like you will be in April.

It takes time to build a strong, steady and long lasting structure.

Eliel_crying_edit

uncomfortable. not knowing what to expect. fear. the thing we all felt when we sat in front of a live mic for the first time.

My sister is going to kill me for using this picture but still.

Station_home_editBut you know what. that helped us build confidence. Now, the station is your home. a place where you’re secure, confortable and can relax.

Board_edit

in the begiining this was like readeing chinese or playing twister for the 1st time.  moving all over the place, getting tangled up. now, it’s second nature. BUT even though we’re off, the pressue is always on.

Relationships_editin the past 2 years, we’ve made amazing friendships and some of us have made fantastic relationships. Even between the 01s and 02s, we’ve mixed with one another and become one. 01s are still the best, but i digress.

The Gunn Show: My thoughts on the Leafs season thus far

Hello, I’m Andrew Gunn. And this is once again, another edition of The Gunn Show blog. In this entry, I’m going to talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs season thus far, through the first 28 games.

I have been a Leafs fan for what feels like my entire life. I bleed blue, and I hardly ever miss a game. And while I am a huge fan of the team and a big supporter, I can also say with confidence that this team is not easy to watch. They’re not easy to cheer for either. They have such a great history and a terrific fanbase, but lately, they have not been able to please the fans for any extended period of time. They have not been able to win consistently and it is frustrating to say the least.

This season (so far) is another good form of proof that you don’t know what you’re gonna get with this team. They’ve let the fans down numerous times so far this season, and yet still manage to regain their hope and support by stringing some wins together. They currently, as of December 10th, sit 6th in the Eastern Conference, and if the season ended today, would make the playoffs. However, as Leaf fans know all too well, the season does not end 28 games into the season and where they sit in the standings near Christmas time don’t really mean a whole lot. There are some terrific positives with this team. They have a very adequate offense, lead by the likes of Phil Kessel, James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak, Joffrey Lupul and Nazem Kadri. They also have a stellar goaltender in Jonathan Bernier. There are lots of things to be excited about with this team. There are also some things that leave the fans with wonder. This team has flaws, there is no doubt about that. Their defense is shaky, average at best. Their ability to play with a lead, or play their way out of a deficit, lack a great deal. This team is far from perfect, and while everyone is excited about the team is playing right now, there are still questions for concern. Can this team beat the Montreal Canadiens or Boston Bruins in a 7 game playoff series? Can they play with a level of intensity that if not exceeds, at least matches the opponent? That remains to be seen. I believe if the Leafs want to not only make the playoffs, but win a round or two, they need to improve on a few things. One being defense. If I’m General Manager Dave Nonis, I’m looking to acquire a top 4 defenseman before the trade deadline rolls around. I know it’s still very early in the season but I look at teams out of a playoff picture that may have a d-man to spare. I look at Carolina d-man Andrej Sekera, Devils d-man Andy Greene, Blue Jackets’ Jack Johnson and the Stars Trevor Daley. All very good options to upgrade on defense. I also look at adding another top 6/top 9 forward, that not only brings offense but brings leadership as well. I think about Shane Doan of the Coyotes, Travis Zajac of the Devils, Eric Staal of the Hurricanes and Erik Cole of the Stars. I think if the Leafs could manage to acquire one or two of the guys I mentioned, they definitely improve their chances of being competitive. One can only hope Dave Nonis is thinking the same thing. GO LEAFS GO.

The Gunn Show: Blue Jays Offseason

Hello everyone. This is another edition of The Gunn Show with a blog about the Toronto Blue Jays Offseason.

I love what the Jays have done so far during the offseason. They’ve brought in some very talented players and they have certainly improved their team so far. The first big player they brought in was catcher Russell Martin. This is a great pickup. They overspent to get him and he doesn’t quite deserve the amount of money he got, but he’s a great addition to this team. He brings some much needed leadership to the clubhouse to go with very solid offensive numbers. He’s also very good behind the plate. He’s great at calling games and taking control. He’s one of the best catchers in the league when it comes to pitch framing, which is a lot more important than some people think. Pitch framing is basically receiving the ball from a pitcher in a certain way that makes the pitch look like a strike, even when sometimes it may not be. Martin is also a very good hitter, hitting for both decent power and contact. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt he’s a Canadian boy.

The other big time player they’ve acquired is third baseman Josh Donaldson. They picked him up in a trade with the Oakland Athletics that sent Canadian, fan favourite Brett Lawrie from Toronto to Oakland. Josh Donaldson is an unbelievable player. His defense at third base is spectacular. He, like Martin, also brings some great leadership to the clubhouse, which the team desperately needed more of. Donaldson is also a very good hitter. He’s received MVP votes for the last two seasons and has been able to hit the ball out of the ballpark on a consistent basis. Bringing in Donaldson and Martin were huge for GM Alex Anthopoulos and the Jays and I love the moves, however, I do believe there is more work to be done this offseason, before we can start calling this team a true threat to win. Most importantly, they need an ace pitcher. They need a guy who can anchor the starting rotation and take the ball every 5 days and go out and give a consistent effort and log innings. The rotation is very young with Marcus Stroman, Drew Hutchison and Aaron Sanchez, and with the help of veteran Mark Buehrle, they have the chance to be a very competitive team if they get a true ace starting pitcher. A few starting pitchers I’d like to see the Jays pursue include James Shields, Max Scherzer, Cole Hamels, Jordan Zimmermann, Derek Holland and Brett Anderson.

They also need a strong bullpen. After losing Casey Janssen, Dustin McGowan and Brandon Morrow to free agency, their bullpen has become very thin and needs to be bolstered before the season starts. Pitching in general plays a huge part in a team’s success, and a very good bullpen can go a long way. Some relievers that I would like to see the Blue Jays try and acquire would be Greg Holland, Jason Motte, John Axford, Matt Lindstrom and Sergio Romo. The team also needs a starting 2nd baseman. 2nd base has been a position that’s needed to be filled basically since Aaron Hill was with Toronto in 2011. We’ve seen guys like Kelly Johnson, Emilio Bonifacio and Maicer Izturis man 2nd base and while they managed, they weren’t good enough to help the team win. A few guys I have in mind that I believe the Jays should go after are Asdrubal Cabrera, Jed Lowrie or Chase Utley.

Overall, the Blue Jays offseason has been pretty successful so far, but is far from complete and I hope to see Alex Anthopoulos pull off a few more moves before the season begins in April of 2015. Thanks for reading, this is The Gunn Show.

The Senior Student: How to deal with burnout

As much as I love this program, I have to admit, I am done with this semester. I’m more than ready to have an entire month of no all-nighters, no early classes, and no homework. Just one more week to get through until I can sleep as long as I want, catch up with friends, have a Netflix marathon…but to get there I must survive this next week.

fry

So what’s been keeping me going? First of all, I just picture where this is all going to take me. I picture myself being in the DJ chair at an awesome radio station and not having to work at a boring desk job again. Achieving the dream job will make all of this hard work worth it. Basically, I think of crunch time at school the same way I think of my tattoos – a painful process to endure, but the final product is worth it.

It also helps to take breaks. Grab a coffee or a beer with a friend, take a nice hot bubble bath, whatever. Even during exam season your brain needs to relax sometimes. And make sure you get enough sleep! A proper night’s sleep may make the difference between getting a 90 on an exam versus getting a 60.

homersleeping

Exercising is great too, because it releases endorphins to the brain, which can make you happier. Yes, I know it may be difficult to find time to do it, but even ten minutes can do wonders. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk to school if you live close. If you have a dog, walk it.

Healthy eating can help too. Yes, it is difficult to find time to cook, but even if you do order out, some places have healthier options. I can’t speak for anyone else, but for me, after a certain point, sugar makes my anxiety levels go through the roof.  But a diet that includes vegetables, fruit, proteins, water, etc, will make you feel more energized.

And if all else fails, there’s only a couple of days left to get through….

Mancave – Sons Of Anarchy Finale Predictions

Man CaveAs you may know about me, from my Top 5 Movie Villain Podcast, I love the BAD GUY! I love me some organized crime movies or T.V Series’

So it should come as no surprise that I’ve been watching the Sons of Anarchy, and sadly the show is coming to a close tonight.

https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/fr/0/06/Key_art_sons_of_anarchy.jpg
Now like most movie/T.V aficionado’s, I make predictions for how I think things will end. I have a lot of expectations for the ending of S.O.A, and decided to make 5 predictions for the finale.

1.) The main character Jax Teller will die…

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/67/5e/03/675e03c07aaf1729f16f2478f883b9d3.jpg
Now I know this isn’t a bold prediction, as a lot of people have predicted this. So I’ll take one further. Not only will Jax die. The entire motorcycle gang will die as well. The show teased in last week’s episode that he would die due to a Mayhem vote. For those who aren’t aware, that’s when the rest of your club votes to have you killed. But I think that’s a swerve. There was a character at the end of season 1 or 2 named Ethan Zobelle.

https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7f/EthanZobelle.jpg/250px-EthanZobelle.jpg
He was an enemy that they had cornered and had an opportunity to kill, however they let him live after rushing to Jax’s aid to find his son who was kidnapped. Now they had ample opportunity to kill him, and in fact, he is the only enemy that they had, that disappeared and didn’t die. They never mentioned him again. And that’s the “Surprise”. I’ve had this theory for about a season or two now, and have talked to several people about it. And they don’t agree with me, or didn’t think of it. (If this happens, I’m a genius. Just stating that, right now.) What I actually think happens is they are going to be taking the Mayhem vote, and he will show up and shoot the entire club. Anyways, on to prediction 2. (I Promise they won’t be as long).

2.) Nero Padilla dies.

https://i0.wp.com/img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20141001204426/sonsofanarchy/images/e/ed/Nero_704.png

Sad I know. Why should he die. He’s a lovable man with integrity that’s an O.G. He just wants to get to the farm with his son. And that’s the reason I think he’s going to die. His past will catch up to him. Plus it’ll make people really sad. (I’m all about good characters dying in movies.)

3.) The Grim Bastards become the first black members of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle gang.

https://i0.wp.com/www.imarider.com/file/attachment/2012/10/d09e0b10d14b3e23732cd0aee63bc24b.jpg

I know they’ve already hinted at it, and it’s not exactly a bold prediction, but not everything that is supposed to happen does.

4.) Alvarez stabs the SONS in the back.

https://i0.wp.com/ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTc0NTg1OTQ3MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjgyMDE0Ng@@._V1_SX214_CR0,0,214,317_AL_.jpgWhy? Because he was the first enemy we learned about in the show. He has a rival motorcycle gang. We’re supposed to believe there’s peace between the gangs? I don’t think so. I think they purposely kept the 2 gangs from beefing so that they could save it for one last episode.

5.) Over 40 People die in this last episode.

http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140304172912/sonsofanarchy/images/3/37/Randall_(1).jpgThat’s right. This will be the most gory episode in T.V history. I think the bodies are going to hit the Floor.
Cue the music….

Anyways those are my predictions for tonight. I’ll have updates tomorrow with how many predictions I actually got right.

If you agree or disagree with any of my predictions, or have some of your own, I want to here about. Hit my Twitter account up right here.

THE Q&A SHOW PRESENTS: EVERYBODY’S GOT A STORY

Evan McCarroll is a long-time friend of mine. We went to high school together, we got kicked out of high school together, we got in trouble together, we triumphed together and we began college together. He has been a large part of my life for many years. When Evan told me his secret, I was hurt at first that he didn’t feel safe enough to have told me sooner. After some time and thought, I realized how selfish that emotion was of me. How could I be mad, when he had been trying to live with such a big secret for so long.

This is Evan’s story…..

‘Tis the season to be Jolly…

So here’s the deal…

There’s only 8 more days left in the semester, and things are actually looking up in means of school. Everyone is pretty much kicking ass when it comes to assignments/exams and then that’s when you realize there’s only 21 more days until Christmas. I’m sure by now most people have their Christmas tree up, the smell of fresh pine is in the air(unless you have a fake tree from Walmart like me, that’s fine too) and have all sorts of Christmas decorations hanging beautiful-christmas-tree2around the house, and you just know for a fact that once that long and very well deserved Christmas break is over, and you go back to school or work, people might not recognize you(unfortunately) due to all the weight you’re probably going to gain from all of the delicious chocolate, turkey, stuffing, garlic bread, cake, not to mention the candy candies and whatever Santa left for you in your stocking…I could go on forever.

Good thing that “New Years Resolution” always comes in handy….I am right…huh…oh wait…thats just a figure of speech…right?

MERRY-CHRISTMAS-YA-FILTHY-ANIMAL

But of course, just because it’s Christmas and you are on your Christmas break, doesn’t mean it’s all about you. You always have to be thinking about your family, friends, and loved ones.

But it’s also time to think about the ones, who are less unfortunate then you. Everyone loves Christmas, and everyone deserves to have a happy holidays and a happy news years(even if you are a filthy animal).

So in saying that, I encourage anyone and everyone who reads this blog post, or who as ever read a blog post to be generous this year and to take a step back from reality and realize that there are millions of people each year who don’t get to experience a Christmas like other people do. If you don’t feel like having bad karma for the rest of the year, might I suggest you head out to your local Toy Drive and donate, or you can visit CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish and donate online.

Merry Christmas, ya little jerks.

-Scotty Shade.

You Have A Horrible Name!

HMNIIt’s time for a name change.

Why could the label that your parents put on you be so bad? There’s only one reason why your name could be so important this time of year…CHRISTMAS!

Santa-Claus-Reading-Your-Wish-List

He’s making a list and checking it twice, and he’s going to find out who’s naughty or nice…

– actually he already has –

Santa has already made a list of the top 3 Naughty names of 2014 and yours might be on it! So if you really wanted that xbox 1, ps4 or new car…you’re going to have to email the big fat man with the white long beard yourself. Hey, I can talk bad about him, I’M ON THE LIST!

Without further adew, here are the Top 3 naughtiest names of 2014:

3. Will & Olivia

2. Cameron & Bethany

1. Joey & Ella

Is your Ex’s name up there? Is YOUR name up there? if so, join the club! and to make things even worse, mine is number one! Like c’mon Santa, cut me some slack! I only swore like no more than 2,000 times this year and I only lied like 8 times…okay thats a lie, it was like 20 times…BUT STILL! I deserve that ps4! I almost gave that homeless person $1 but then I remebered I was hungry so I bought chips, it’s the thought that counts right?!

Meh you know what, I’m not going to beg. I’ll be happy with my lump of coal. My heater is broken anyways so I need something to warm my house.

But for you! if your name is on this list, how are you going to prove to this fat guy – who can barely fit in chimneys and tight red pants – that you’re nice? Luckily for you, you’re motivated and don’t give up easily like I just did. You have 1 month to show you’re worthy to be switched over. My advice, buy a lot of milk and cookies.

But, my advice on staying on the naughty list? Don’t change your name, buy Santa veggies, a treadmill and a scale and you’ll be just fine!

Let me know what your ideas are for getting on the nice list -> @JoeyCast93

In the meantime, I’ll be enjoying my lump of coal and eating like a King on Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

This Week in Ink: Dumb Questions/Stereotypes

images (1)

I’m a girl with tattoos (three in total, and am planning to get a fourth). Most people have been pretty cool about it. But I’ve heard some stupid things too since I got my first tattoo six years ago. Honestly, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve gotten a dirty look in public when wearing anything that shows off my upper arm tattoo. I had some pretty crazy reactions too when I told people that the hubby and I were getting tattoos instead of wedding rings.

So here are some of the dumb things I’ve heard from non-inked people (along with some of my favorite responses to give):

1. You do realize that’s a lifetime commitment, right?

You mean I can’t just wash this thing off? Of course we realize that! But guess what? We’re not as impulsive as some might think. Some of us spend a lot of time looking at designs and thinking about what to get and where to put them. Personally, I’ve never gotten a tattoo that I didn’t spend at least six months thinking about first, and I’ve never gotten anything that has no meaning whatsoever to me.

2. I think tattoos look trashy.

Well, isn’t that polite. Does judging people for their life choices make you feel superior to the rest of the human race?

3. How do you expect to ever find a job?

You mean I can’t just walk into a corporate office with Big Bird tattooed to my face? Seriously, all of my tattoos are easily covered. Believe it or not, many of us do consider employment opportunities before getting them. And there is almost no tattoo that a well thought-out wardrobe cannot hide.

4. Wow, you must be one tough chic, eh?

If I’m a tough girl, it’s because I’ve faced a lot of battles in my life and have gotten through them. The flaming guitar on my back has nothing to do with that.

5. Is that a tattoo on your arm?

No, I just decided it would be fun to finger paint on my arm. Pretty neat, eh?

6. Aren’t you worried about how it will look when you get older?

Aren’t you worried about getting gray hair and wrinkles when you get older? I’ll just be a granny with a little more colour on my skin. Plus they have these things called touch-ups now, so my ink will look awesome for years.

7. Is that a gang symbol on your arm?

Yes. The letters under the bird are the first initials of my dead parents and dead brother. As far as gangs go, they don’t get any better than the Morgan family gang!

I don’t mind at all if someone asks me how painful it was, or how much it cost me to get. If you’ve never had a tattoo before, then you need to know what to expect. And I don’t mind talking about the personal meanings behind my ink either. But don’t jump to conclusions. I’m no more likely to rob you than anyone else is.

Have you ever gotten nasty comments for your tattoos? Hit me up on Twitter @ Linda_M82.
